Releaf in action

What your dollars replant

Releafing Altadena is a monumental undertaking that will take the whole community — every dollar, every volunteer, every sapling. Here's the math, and here's what we've done so far.

Assumes $150 per tree, $25 per shrub and $50 labor per planting; a minimum lot needs 8 trees and 20 shrubs — about $3,100. It's a model, not a promise: real costs vary by lot and by what a family wants to grow back.

What one purchase does

Every item we sell has a number on it. Here's how a few of them add up.

Using the model's $150 tree + $50 labor = $200 per tree in the ground. A whole lot (8 trees and 20 shrubs, about $3,100) is roughly 190 t-shirts — or one very good pop-up.

Where the money goes

We donate to organizations already doing the recovery and replanting work in Altadena, in $500 increments as proceeds come in. We're a small family business running a charitable project — not a nonprofit — so the accounting stays simple and public.

The first tree

Riley's lemon tree

Riley lost his trees in the fire. Simon picked a lemon tree at the nursery and we delivered it in a Releaf planter — the first tree we've put in the ground ourselves.
